Robert Goodell is a Complete Idiot!

And he's not alone. According to an ESPN poll 51% think that Goodell's conditions are "too harsh". Only 15% (including myself) think they are too lenient. I knew there was a lot of stupidity in the world, but I didn't realize how much.

For those of you that haven't heard the terrible news, and the reason why I didn't sleep last night since my blood is boiling...NFL commissioner Robert Goodell reinstated Michael Vick yesterday. This goes to show that the world is concerned with nothing but money b/c he was a good player. Not the fact that he's a convicted felon, that has absolutely no remorse for what he did. The only thing that man is sorry for is the fact the he got caught and it hurt his wallet. He has yet to apologize to the victims in his horrific crimes. Thank God the dogs are better off than he is now.

Not even a month ago Mr. Goodell (I like to refer to as Dumbell) put out a statement saying Vick has not done enough to prove himself and playing for the NFL is a privilege. I thought for a second the man had some common sense, but as I have learned in life that's few and far between. Apparently God only passed that out to a handful of people and Mr. Dumbell obviously wasn't one of them.

For those of you in Vick's defense, (oh he's a good player, he did his time, blah blah). Who gives a crap??!! He is a CONVICTED FELON. The only difference between him and any infamous serial killer is that he killed dogs, not people. So apparently that makes it okay. He STRANGLED dogs. He DROWNED dogs. He ELECTROCUTED dogs. He HUNG dogs. He threw beagles in the ring as bait. HE IS A MURDERER! Not to mention the forced breeding, the dogs that were injured in fighting. This wasn't just a thrown together establishment that got together every now and then. The man had it built...he owned it! He ran it! And it went on for over 6 years!!! You can't tell me he didn't know what he was doing!

Let's take a step into my criminology class and review the connection to animal abusers and serial killers...animal abusers become serial killers! They are born rotten on the inside and they stay rotten! There is no changing. Vick has not changed. He will never change!

Still not convinced? How about the gambling aspect...really NFL, you're not concerned about a gambler playing? How stupid can you get?

In reinstating Vick (his name makes me nauseous) they have basically put out a statement for the young lives that look up these athletes saying that it's ok to commit whatever crime you want because as long as you serve your jail sentence, you can still be a pro athlete! The NFL loves convicted felons. I think we should add that to the application process. Check yes and you're promised a paycheck!

Honestly, the NFL has lost so much respect today. They have allowed a murderer to have the opportunity to play again. Even a burger joint probably wouldn't hire someone convicted of a felony (not to mention more than one.) Way to put your establishment inferior to fast food Mr. Dumbell.

Now we wait to see what team is really stupid enough to want him back. Props to the Falcons, Cowboys, Giants & Jets who said "NO!" If there's one thing I know it's that there will be no NFL on my TV's this fall. (Sorry honey, there's always college ball.) There will be no purchasing of any endorsements that supports Vick. And there will be many letters written to Mr. Dumbell and others that follow in his ignorant footsteps.

Take Action!

You don't always have to donate money to make a difference in an animal's life, although it does help.

I recently became aware of an organization called IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare.) They are involved in helping all types of animals all around the world. Some of their biggest efforts right now include helping the animal victims of the Australian fires and banning baby seal clubbing in Canada.

Please visit this site and express your concerns to the proper people to make a difference. You don't have to donate unless you want to. All you need is a name and an email address.

Anyone With Pets READ - Poisonous Plants

I was just sent an article from the ASPCA on the 17 most common Poisonous Plants. It's the time of year where we are all anxious (myself included) to get our flower beds started. If you have pets you will want to keep these flowers in mind when planting your garden.
I was actually surprised to see some of these on here (Azaleas) since they are abundant here. It's a little scary!

There are other informative articles on the website you may want to check out also.

Inspirational and True

I absolutely love this poem. Every word of it is true in my book.

I am an Animal Rescuer

My job is to assist God’s creatures
I was born with the need to fulfill their needs
I take in new family members without plan, thought
or selection
I have bought dog food with my last dime
I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand
I have hugged someone vicious and afraid
I have fallen in love a thousand times
and I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body

I have Animal Friends and friends who have animal friends
I dont often use the word "pet"
I notice those lost at the road side
And my heart aches
I will hand raise a field mouse
And make friends with a vulture
I know of no creature unworthy of my time

I want to live forever if there aren’t animals in Heaven
But I believe there are
Why would God make something so perfect and leave it behind
We may be master of the animals,
But the animals have mastered themselves
Something people still haven’t learned

War and Abuse makes me hurt for the world
But a rescue that makes the news gives me hope for mankind
We are a quiet but determined army
And making a difference ever day

There is nothing more necessary than warming an
orphan
nothing more rewarding than saving a life
No higher recognition than watching them thrive
There is no greater joy than seeing a baby play
who only days ago, was too weak to eat

I am an Animal Rescuer
My work is never done,
My home is never quiet
My wallet is always empty
But my heart is always full

In the game of life, we have already won

YOU can help animals around the world

Animal cruelty and neglect doesn't just happen here in the states. It is world wide. Every type of every animal suffers everyday, in every country and we are responsible. Some examples of these horrible acts are: animals being neglected and abused when used for extreme labor, bull fighting, poaching, overpopulation, living horrible lives until they are slaughtered in barbaric ways for food, and victims of warfare (I'm not denying hundreds of people are injured, suffer and have difficulty being treated, but does anyone ever think about how many innocent animals are blown up, gone untreated, left to suffer and die in the middle of the chaos?)

You can take action in helping these animals live a better life. Help The World Society for the Protection of Animals. Sign the Animals Matter to Me petition.

No this isn't a donation. It's a simple signature. We need 10 Million signatures and we only have 1,883,978.
988,229 of those are Americans so lets keep up the good work! Show the world that we care about the welfare of all animals no matter what country! Show the world that we are compassionate.

What this petiton is all about: READ

Some of you may think I'm crazy to worry about animals used for labor or food consumption, but honestly would you want to live in awful conditions your entire life before being brutally and inhumanely slaughtered?? Did you know that it's legal in the US for horses to be transported to Mexico and Canada for hours without food, water, a place to relieve themselves or rest just to be inhumanely slaughtered for food? In Mexico their spinal cord is severed while they are still conscious before being slaughtered. Still think I'm crazy? The public is unaware of these grotesque acts that go on everyday.
People need animals for survival. We rely on animals and more importantly, they rely on us. Why not give them the treatment they deserve? A signature is all it takes for you to make a difference.

Lastest on Michael Vick

I saw this today. Vick Update I typically get updates from the ASPCA, but they haven't reported it yet. Thankfully he has yet to be sentenced by the state and could still face more jail time. (We can only hope and pray.) I'm awaiting the day he walks out. I will be there in full protest. Along with the day the NFL meets to review his case and unfortunately probably reinstate him.
Some of you may think that he got caught up in a bad thing and made a mistake. This was no mistake. Yes, he did get caught up in a bad thing, as do many people. It's a sick sport and only the pure ignorant participate.
Not only was Michael Vick the ringleader of "Bad Newz Kennels" he also did some of the most horrific things that could be done to a living being. If dogs didn't perform he beat them, he drowned them, he electrocuted them and he hung them. A measly jail sentence hardly touches these grotesque acts. The fact that every sponsor and the NFL dropped him helps. But the really great thing is the poor little star quarterback had to declare bankruptcy after having to pay out to every dog on his property. Yes, it's his "hard earned" money that paid for the medical treatment and rehabilitation of these poor victims. That's justice!
There is much more to dog fighting than meets the eye. Smaller dogs like beagles and poodles are used as bait. Females that are good fighters are put in a contraption and are forced to breed until they physcially can't anymore. Then they are disposed of...probably in one of the ways listed above.
If it were up to me little Mikey would be scooping dog crap at animal shelters for the rest of his life! Or thrown in a ring with the dogs he tormented...Give him a taste of his own medicine. I in no way feel sorry for him or anyone else involved. I only have pity on the furry lives that were harmed and tortured.
Unfortunately the public view of Pit Bulls is severely tarnished. This use to be America's dog! Look at the Little Rascals!! They really are kind, smart and loyal creatures! Trust me in all my years of working with animals, I've been lunged at by a chihuahua far more than a pit! It's not the dog: It's the owners! These dogs are raised to be this way. The reason they do it is to satisfy their master. It's not in their blood...they are just an extremely strong breed with great jaws and are now having to suffer due to mankinds ignorance.
The only good that has come out of this is the world of dog fighting is finally exposed for what it is. I am thankful that someone famous was caught, punished and made an example. He is no different than the average Joe.
Let's hope the NFL committe isn't completely stupid. If they won't keep him out over the felony charges of dog fighting at least maybe they will consider the gambling aspect. Money talks more than animals I suppose.

I'm getting started

Before going any further read this first:
This blog is strictly MY OPINION and MY BELIEFS. I understand there are critics out there that will not agree or see things the way I do. Animals are 4 legged people to me and if you don't agree, well, I'm glad I'm not you. To be blunt: If you don't like it, don't read it.
I am not trying to be rude or offend anyone, but I know I will get comments on how I feel about things so I'm just letting you know ahead of time, it will not change my mind or hurt my feelings. It will probably make me feel sorry for you.
I am not an extremist, although to people that don't care about animals, I'm probably seen as one. I strongly support rescue organizations that use common sense and uphold moral values such as the ASPCA, Best Friends, and Dogs Deserve Better. I do not fully support PETA...example of extremist. Even though I strongly feel that animal cruelty penalties are not strong enough. If it were up to me sentencing would consist of an eye for an eye. However I personally don't agree with the way PETA treats mankind. Being grotesque and violent accomplishes nothing. I believe in educating the public and reaching out to those who are already involved in animal rights to come together and help animals.
(In saying this, it does not mean that I will not voice my personal opinion about what I feel should happen in certain cases to certain people...IE Michael Vick and every other person involved in dog fighting, but I guess that's why we have a justice system and not a barbaric free for all!)
In the end it's really about helping the animals, regardless of anything else.

A little about me:
I'm fairly new to this blog thing and I'm also new to getting into lobbying for animal rights. I've always supported passing laws for animal rights and I sign all the petitions that come around. But now I'm really taking it seriously and I want to truly make a difference. I've been a vet tech for about 8 years and I absolutely love it, but quite frankly I'm burnt out with it. I've been lucky enough to do anything from daily preventative care, assisting with surgery, emergency medicine to rehabilitation (which I must say was the most rewarding and I miss it!) However, it's time for me to make a difference some other way. In a way that I can reach people and educate them so that animals can live better lives.

I hope to post more positive news than negative, but unfortunately it takes negativity to produce a hopefully positive outcome. My goal is to raise awareness about several animal related issues. I also hope to learn more on my journey. This is a new experience for me and I'm very excited to start and share it all!

Here is a little taste of what was accomplished in 2008. ASPCA Video Let's make 2009 even more successful!

*Again, I must emphasize that these are MY opinions. Rude comments will be ignored, especially ones that are anonymous. I have the right to post it and you have the right not to read it.
